Geotechnical Drilling in Tight Spaces? Discover the Explo 220

Tight spaces pose a problem in many types of work including geotechnical drilling. In mineral exploration, you have ample room to use large and powerful drilling equipment, geotechnical drilling is often performed in urban areas where space is not always an option. Buildings, people, and traffic – all can get in the way of you doing your work freely.

So I am pretty pleased to be able to suggest a drill rig that is ideal for tight spaces. The EXPLO 220 is a light and portable drilling rig designed for shallow geotechnical investigation and geophysical (seismic) exploration using rotary drilling, coring, auger drilling or percussive drilling. It is the perfect rig to use on sites where a 2 ton rig cannot go.

tricone-acier-Fordia.jpgThis rig is ideal for small diameter drilling (for example, drilling with tricones) and when you only need shallow depth - in Africa they are using it to go as deep as 30 meters. It also provides an optional cathead option that allows you to perform standard penetration testing (SPT).

One of great benefits of the EXPLO 220 rig is that it is made of 6 fully dismountable parts which can be easily reassembled on site in only 5 to 10 minutes. With an aluminum transport skid, you can easily transport the EXPLO 220 to any site, even those with difficult access. It can also be mounted on a trailer or 4WD carrier and its light weight makes it easy to transport by helicopter or by ATV.

You can check out the video below to see how quick and easy it is to assemble.

This product is available with a choice of 3 motors: a gasoline Honda 20, HP engine or a Diesel Lombardini 19 HP engine or electric. These are pretty important options when you are underground or in a space with poor ventilation – no one wants to deal with gas fumes.

So the next time your drilling project involves problems underneath a foundation, or projects that require work in basements, underground parking or spaces with limited clearance, finding a suitable drill rig should no longer be a problem.
